SANDRA’S DAY IN ILLUSTRATION

Sandra Clemons lives with her husband and daughter in Denver, Colorado. After a run, she grabs a giant mug of coffee, and walks her daughter to school, she begins her day. She uses paper and pencil to create her drawings. Sandra takes a picture and then traces the picture in procreate on her ipad. Next, she colors her pictures. Ideas come to Sandra from the topics that effect her family. Topics such as, the excitement her daughter feels when she see’s the family of fox’s across the street, or the panda brochure her daughter made in school, perhaps, the birthday party Sandra and her husband planned for their daughter. Once an idea is settled on, the sketching of ideas begins. Sandra brainstorm’s 10 seamless patterns and then begins sketching the elements to make the patterns. After Sandra pick’s up her daughter from school, after her daughter’s afterschool ballet or tennis, and after dinner with her husband, Sandra begins refining and coloring the sketches into procreate. The next day is the best part of the process, it is the creation of the repeat patterns. Sandra export’s the drawings from procreate to photoshop, and then to illustrator. In illustrator, Sandra vectorizes, makes the repeat patterns, and builds the fabric collection. Sandra has a great art studio overlooking the mountains. The floor and walls of the studio are white, the space has large windows allowing natural light to fill the space.
